It’s Officially Tony Season!

Early this morning (at least by theater standards) some of Broadway’s biggest stars woke up to news of the 2012 Tony Award® nominations. Kristin Chenoweth (Promises, Promises, WICKED, “Glee”) and Jim Parsons (Harvey, The Normal Heart, “The Big Bang Theory”) made the announcements from Lincoln Center.

Leading with 11 nominations is the musical Once, based on the Academy Award®-winning indie film of the same title and the music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. Other productions leading the way include the Broadway revival Porgy and Bess and the new musical Nice Work If You Can Get It which includes time-honored music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin with 10 nominations apiece. Peter and the Starcatcher, a play about how an orphan became Peter Pan, racked up nine nominations.

Mark your calendars! The Tony Awards will air live on Sunday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. central on CBS and will be hosted once again by Neil Patrick Harris. Below, are a few of the most notable categories, but you can find a full list of awards and nominees at tonyawards.com
