Turning the Clocks Back with Jersey Boys

Last week History Museum at the Castle had a great post about Appleton back in 1962 when the musical Jersey Boys takes place. It made me wonder, what else was happening?

As Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons hit the airwaves with “Sherry” and “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” President John F. Kennedy was leading the country through the Cuban missile crisis, John Glenn was orbiting the earth, a new vaccine promised to prevent polio, and an illustrator named Andy Warhol was stirring up the art world with “Campbell’s Soup Cans.” 

What was life like for everyone else? The average American earned $5,556 a year, lived in a house worth $12,500 and dreamed about filling up a Chevy 409 with gas at 28 cents a gallon.

A Note About Jersey Boys from Shirley

Jersey Boys was an energetic and fun theater experience.  It was one great song after another. Going into the show, my knowledge of The Four Seasons was limited but the show was very entertaining and transformed me into a Four Seasons fan.  I can't wait to download some songs to my iPod. 

I was very impressed with what such a small cast could accomplish.

For One Night Only, Cabaret at the Corner of College and Broadway

Everything this month at the Fox Cities P.A.C. is fueled by big city inspiration, including the Jersey Boys cast cabaret event,Cabaret at College and Broadway. On Monday, June 13 the cast and crew of Jersey Boys step out of their roles to perform some of the Fox Cities’ favorite Broadway songs. With music from The Producers, RENT and WICKED, just to name a few, you can enjoy some of Broadway's greatest hits in an intimate Kimberly-Clark Theater cabaret setting. 

If this is your first cast cabaret event at the Fox Cities P.A.C., you are in for a treat. The events are designed by the cast and crew who generously volunteer their time and talent on their day off to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center’s mission-based programs. Proceeds from ticket sales and auction items assist the Center in fulfilling its mission and bringing that vision to life through programs like the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Education Series, the Boldt Arts Alive! Series of cultural performances and free Appleton Papers Inc. Community Engagement Activities.
